Lone Cone Challenge
 Meares Island
Have you done the Grouse Grind?! Well…it’s time to try Tofino’s Lone Cone Challenge (better views included).

The magnificent back drop to picturesque Tofino Village is pristine Meares Island. For THE best view on the coast you will not want to miss this. This is an intermediate hike for seriously fun and reasonably fit people. There is a 2.5 hour uphill grind to the summit where you will be sweetly rewarded with unparalleled panoramic views. Gazing down at the myriad of islands and bays and our quaint village below, you can only imagine what it might have felt like for Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations People for whom Clayoquot Sound has been home for several thousand years as they watched the first European explorers sail into the waters below them! This spot will leave you speechless. It’s quiet up there. Cool out and relax as you watch small boaters come and go painting white stripes on the ocean. From the Lone Cone bluff you can see the curve of the earth and hang with the eagles.

After several years of fielding questions about “where to find a stellar hike?” we have organized the Lone Cone Challenge. This hike requires a fair amount of determination.

Take the challenge with Jae Lazar our local fitness guru. Jae will inspire you, drive you, guide you to the top! Jae has been around Tofino for 18 years. She has done everything from guiding commercial fishing charters, working for the coast guard to running her own beach fitness company called Fight Club! She has a mixed martial arts background, is big on board sports and acts as a BCRPA certified personal trainer. Jae’s passion for healthy vibrant living keeps her active outdoors.
