Fall Reflections
First of all we would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to all our supporters for such a fabulous summer! Despite the somewhat unfavorable conditions at the start of the season, it was a grand year! We initiated some spirited guests in our wild & wet west coast weather.
Arriving early from their breeding grounds came hoards of California Sea lions. This spring we had over a thousand critters at Berryman Point! Very exciting! The sunshine did finally arrive late and with it, our beautiful whales. All summer we were treated to Humpback Whale and Grey Whale shows up and down our coast line. August and September were host to numerous visits from transient Orca gangs! This summer was also consistent for Sea Otters, Brown Pelican sightings, Osprey and Puffin sightings as well. Our Bear Tours this season were once again 100% successful! On the rise were wolf sightings with over 55 spotted up and around Tofino's inlet fjords. An unforgettable memory for many of our guests was the experience of howling back and forth with the wolves on shore!
What’s NEW at Ocean Outfitters …
Captain Tom Van Wyck & Captain Oren Lawson joined our crew with rave reviews from passengers. Looking over our guest book I can see that some of the ladies even found Oren to be as much of an attraction as the wildlife!
After a two year break we resurrected the hugely popular Cougar Annie Tours. If you haven’t already read the book, Annie was an extraordinary woman who carved sprawling gardens and an orchard out of the wilderness at Boat Basin. She has a colorful history that is most entertaining. You can visit Annie’s Garden paradise with us each Saturday and listen to Peter Buckland share Annie’s life story.
Our new addition to the fleet is the ‘ReJoyce’ offering sturdy passage to majestic Meares Island Big Tree Trail. This is the most popular spot to hug a tree! Some of these giants are so big that you need 15 friends hand in hand to embrace. Grab your dog & join Jean-Baptiste (J.B.) our energetic Meares Island Captain for a mini inner harbor tour and go hug some trees!
Don’t forget ~ We are OPEN YEAR ROUND for Hot Springs Cove tours! This is the quintessential west coast experience ~ great rain, snow or shine!
During 2007 we enjoyed a record year for return passengers & we hope you’ll visit us again in our beautiful Clayoquot Sound playground; this 350,000 hectare collection of mountains, ancient temperate rain forest, secluded beaches, lakes and maze of islands is SURE TO AMAZE YOU!
