Spring 2007

“Whales Tales”

Well, once again the winter brought one crazy weather system after another on the west coast. We have never seen such fury! But spring has sprung, the birds are singing and more importantly the whales are BACK! We had a busy Whale festival with many fun events sponsored by participating  businesses in town – we gave out delicious handmade seashell chocolates on our hotsprings tours for something a little different.

Already this year we have interesting and new sightings. The most unique is 1000 or more sealions up the inlets at Berryman Point. There are small fish called Pilchards that were once almost extinct in the Tofino area but now with an insurgence of them in the inlets we have other marine life that follow there path hence the 1000 hungry sealions. It is quite a  spectacle and in March made for a fun alternative to whales when the seas were too large to go offshore. This year has also brought quite a few visits from transient killer whales and rafts of up to 40 seaotters.

Our most exciting news this year is that we will be offering tours to Cougar Annie’s Garden again. The tours will be every Saturday 9:30am – 4:30pm. It will include a wonderful boat tour of the inlets, an exciting landbased route from Stewardson Inlet to Boat Basin, an interpretive walk through the gardens and time to have a picnic lunch. If you would like to venture to a part of Clayoquot Sound where no other tourist will be then this tour will be the one for you !

On a different note we have renovated our shop once again! Please come in early and try an organic Creekmore Coffee from our espresso bar , there is also wireless internet while you wait. Every day new stock is arriving for our gallery, an eclectic mix of handmade jewellery, cozy alpaca sweaters and toques, unique local woodturnings and boxes, rock tea lights, wooden shorebirds, art, books, stuffed animals and more!! A little something for everybody……
