Happy New Year! A huge thank you to everyone who came and enjoyed our local waters in 2009! What an incredible year! And what an incredible start to a new decade!
We’ve been spoiled spotting Grey Whales right up to the 3rd of January! and Orca with the last sighting Jan 2nd! As I write this, Berryman Point is full of California Sealions and the rocks at Plover Reef are dotted with Stellars. As an added treat, our Captains have been reporting groups of 30 and 40 sea otters at a time!
From the start of our season last February we only had one tour without whale sightings. The summer was incredibly rich with Grey Whales, Humpbacks and 81 visits by Orca! Our local wolf populations are at an all time high and so are our sightings. We had 77 wolf reports in 2009. It is estimated that the Fortune Channel wolf pack are now at around 16 members!
Our new tour, the Lone Cone Challenge inspired quite a few active souls this past season. The struggle to get to the summit of the mountain was sweetly rewarded by pristine views of the Sound.
As many of you know, July 1st we moved half a block down the street into the NEW Shore building! We are now on the water’s edge and expect the new dock to be completed this coming season. The Shore is Tofino’s most beautiful waterfront property. We own two units combining the gallery Covet and Ocean Outfitters Tour Office. Covet is showcase to modern apparel, art and accessories.
